Questions and Answers

At Horizon Christian Church we know that people often have a lot of questions when considering a new church.  So, in an attempt to answer as many of those questions for you as we can we have filled this page with some commonly asked questions and the answers to them as they pertain to Horizon Christian Church.  If you have a question that isn't answered here feel free to come see us or send us an email.

What is a church plant?

A church plant is a brand new church that is being started in an area where there is a need.  The term church "plant" is used because the process of starting a new church is like that of planting a seed.   It needs to be put in the right place and given plently of attention and time to grow.

I'm not perfect, will I feel comfortable at your church?

At Horizon Christian Church we realize that no one is perfect and that we are all stained by sin.   We also realize that no sin is greater than another and that without the saving grace of Jesus Christ we are all lost in sin.  So, we try to love and accept everyone, no matter what their past or current situation looks like.  God loves everyone and so do we.  Our focus is not to judge people, but to help people find their path to redemption through Jesus Christ.

What do people normally wear to  your church?

At Horizon Christian Church there really is no normal dress code.  We encourage everyone who attends a weekly service, community group, or any other type of meeting to wear what they feel comfortable in.  For most fo the people at Horizon that is pretty casual, but there is never anything wrong with coming just as you are.

Why don't you have your own facility to meet in?

As a new church, Horizon Christian Church currently meets in a rented facility.  Although it is our plan to eventually own land and a permanent facility to hold our worship services in, it is simply not possible at this stage in our church's development.  Once a core staff team is fully supported by inside contributions we will begin our search for a permanent meeting place.

Where does the money from your offerings go?

At Horizon Christian Church our weekly offerings go toward several different things.  First, we make it a priority to take 10% of everything given and put it to work outside of our church.  This money generally goes to local missions organizations and church planting efforts in other areas of the country and state.  The rest of the money goes to help pay facility rental fees, operating costs, and staff salaries.

Who governs Horizon Christian Church?

At Horizon Christian Church we place great importance in following the Bible as our ultimate authority, and within the Bible we are given parameters for how the local church should be governed.  So, we are governed by a team of men called Elders.  These are men who meet certain Biblical qualifications and have a deep commitment to the church and it's mission.  They are to be both spiritual overseers and operational overseers.

However, in a church plant setting it is not always wise or possible to establish elders from the very beginning.  So, we are currently governed by an oversight team.  This is a team of men who meet the same Biblical qualifications that elders do, but are simply from outside our church.  They have been hand picked because of their desire to see Horizon Christian Church accomplish it's mission, and as soon as it is possible the oversight team will be replaced by a team of Elders from inside the church.
