Matt Sprague - Discipleship

Matt SpragueAs a young boy I had no concept of God. I was never forced to go to church, or any other religious function. As I got older, it became more important to my mother that we start going to church; so on most Sundays, we went. The church we went to was rather old, so there was not a lot of people there, making it easy for me to stretch out in the length of the pew for nap.

We later switched to a church that had a few more people, and when I was about 11 my mom decided that she wanted to be baptized. I was really unsure what all of that meant considering I wasn’t into church or God. I decided to be baptized with her, since I thought this meant I was able to eat the mid-service snack.

As certain things happened in our lives, we started going to church less and less until we rarely went. I was done with church until about my freshman year of high school when I met a friend who was into the same music as I was. He told me lots of things about God that I never heard in church. So, I started attending youth group with him, and then eventually church.

I had plenty of questions and doubts, but I took faith one day at a time. As college was looming in my life, I decided to pursue a degree in electronics. Then a semester later, it was business and accounting. Then a semester later, I just didn’t care anymore. That summer my friend, the one who had introduced me to this new way of thinking, decided he was going to Bible College and suggested I come as well.

Little did I know how that decision would change my life and point me towards a career in ministry.  Now, I want people to see what a change God can make, not only in the world, but in their lives.
